  • Water services and sanitary sewer laterals: Review and issue connection permits. Inspect construction. Record installation in office records.
  • Right-of-way construction permits: Review and issue permits for construction within the City street rights- of-way. This would include drive approaches (between the street and the property line), utilities, sidewalks and any other work in the street right-of-way. Inspect construction.
  • Assist Traffic Engineer/Public Safety Director with responsibility for all traffic control devices on City streets. These include: traffic signals, regulatory signs (stop, yield, speed, parking, etc.), warning signs and pavement markings. Place and maintain traffic recorder/classifier at selected locations in the City to record traffic volumes, speeds and other traffic characteristics.
  • Preparation of plans and specifications for civil engineering projects related to sanitary sewers, pumping stations, storm sewers, watermains, wells, water tower, streets, sidewalks and other facilities. Inspect construction.

A party wanting to excavate in Michigan calls one number (1-800-482-7171) at least three working days in advance. The City receives an email with the appropriate information. We field locate and stake underground City facilities (sewers, watermains and electric lines) as a service to the Public Services and Electric Departments.
  • Monitor the work of engineering consultants. Assist other departments with the selection of technical consultants upon request.
  • Assist the City Manager in the preparation of property transfer agreements. Maintain records of annexations and property transfers.
  • Oversee City Hall maintenance activities.
  • Maintain and update City master utility maps and other City maps.
