WATER SYSTEMS



Operation and Maintenance:
The City of Sturgis’ Water System is operated and maintained by the following departments and divisions;

Billing and Customer Services

Water System Components:
The Water System includes the following components:
  • Three operational wells:
    Well Name Location Capacity - GPM
    Oaklawn Oaklawn Park 1800
    Lakeview Hospital parking lot 1400
    Thurston Woods Thurston Woods Park 1500
    Thurston Woods #2 Thurston Woods Park 1800
  • A 1.5 million gallon elevated water storage tank.
  • Approximately 66 miles of watermains.

Water Treatment and Quality:

Water Treatment: The following chemicals are added to the water at each well: 
  • Chlorine to prevent bacterial growth in the water supply.
  • Flouride to help prevent tooth decay.
  • Polyphosphate Polymer to minimize “red water” and to control corrosion in the water supply system.

Water Characteristics:
  • Hardness: 295 to 344 parts per million (ppm); 16-20 grains.
  • Iron: 1.7 ppm or less.
  • Sodium: 8 ppm or less.
  • Nitrate: 1.3 ppm
  • PH: 6.0 to 6.5
