DPS Snow and Ice Reminders |
|

With winter upon us, the Department of Public Services (DPS) crews will be out and about once again as ice and snow begin to accumulate. The City asks that if you must drive during a snowstorm, please use caution and defensive driving techniques.
When you see the City’s snow removal equipment out, don’t follow too closely behind. If you can’t see the truck driver’s mirrors, they can’t see you; staying back will help crews prevent accidents. If possible, give the equipment operator the right of way. It will make their job easier and allow them to make the roadway as safe as possible as quickly as possible for all drivers.

City crews also apply salt to the roadway when it becomes slippery. Crews will work initially to apply salt to state highways within the City limits and to all City intersections. City streets could be slippery between intersections, so if it is snowing, slow down and give yourself plenty of room to stop.
During heavy snowfalls the City will declare a Snow Route Emergency (see this article for more info) to allow snow plows to clear off critical City streets as quickly as possible. During a Snow Route Emergency, the City encourages residents to stay at home in order to keep as much traffic off the streets as possible to help provide for speedier cleanup operations.
